The history of the Kwizda company starts in Lower Austria, 73 years before the founding of the agriculture division: in 1853, Franz Johann Kwizda takes over the Kreisapotheke pharmacy in Korneuburg, rapidly ascending to become a Purveyor to the Imperial and Royal Court as a pharmacist and vet. His son Julius takes over the company and plays a leading role in advancing the pharmaceutical production. And each subsequent generation enters a new stage of development with passion and innovative ability. Subsequently, the wholesale pharmaceutical trade is expanded and the branch network of drugstores is broadened

In 1924, Richard Kwizda takes over the company, founding the agrochemical division in 1926, which today operates as Kwizda Agro in the whole of Europe and North America. In 1942, the Sonnhof property is acquired and developed for agricultural trials.

In 1980, the plant in Leobendorf is built, where production commences in 1982 under the supervision of Johann F. Kwizda. It has since been expanded to become one of the most cutting-edge, secure production facilities in the Central European region. Today, the factory employs 135 workers. The research and development department is dedicated to coming up with biological plant protection and innovative formulas. In addition, the factory also produces high-quality and complex plant protection agents for sustainable agriculture. 1995 brings the founding of Vikem-Kwizda in France, followed by the commissioning of the new production facility in Val d’Izé nine years later. 

Kwizda Agro has always been committed to the development and production of innovative plant protection solutions. With the takeover of Agrovet Trade in the year 2007, Kwizda Agro entered the Romanian market. Today, Romania is one of the company’s core markets. We are continuously investing in the know-how of our employees and the technical features of our facilities. In the years from 2014 to 2019, a total of 24.3 million euros were invested in the Leobendorf location. A new investment program to the tune of 41.1 million euros was initiated in 2020. This is how, using ultra-modern technology, we produce the plant protection of today and develop the plant protection of tomorrow together with our partners

.Since it was founded 160 years ago, Kwizda has always been a family-run, Austrian-owned company that takes up modern developments and actively promotes them as a pioneer. Today, the company is in the hands of the fourth generation, run by Mag. pharm. Richard Peter Kwizda and business graduate Dr. Johann Franz Kwizda. They have advanced the internationalization of the company, thereby consolidating the leading market position of the Kwizda Holding. And as a Europe-wide player in the industry, the signs continue to point to internationalization. This forms the foundation of growth for the family company well beyond the borders of Austria.
